As Skin Dynamics celebrates 20 years, our founder Dr. Kathryn Wentworth reflects on her journey in medical aesthetics, from discovering the field’s therapeutic benefits to becoming a passionate advocate for long-term skin health. In this interview, she shares the inspiration behind Skin Dynamics, her philosophy on natural-looking results, and why the future of aesthetics lies in regenerative treatments that help patients look healthy, refreshed, and like the very best version of themselves.

How and when did you become interested in the field of medical aesthetics?

My journey into medical aesthetics started with a small introductory course many years ago. What

initially attracted me was the cosmetic side of the field, but as I began treating patients, I quickly

realized there were significant therapeutic benefits as well. That sparked my curiosity and led me to

pursue further training.

After about five years in practice, I noticed something interesting: the patients who were truly

looking after their skin were consistently achieving better outcomes. That observation shifted my

focus toward skin health and optimization. Since then, I've become passionate about understanding

not just how to treat concerns, but how to help people achieve healthier, stronger skin for the long

term.

How did you end up in Cranbrook?

We initially chose Cranbrook because it offered everything we were looking for - a safe, beautiful

place to raise a family, an airport, a mild climate, and the opportunity to learn how to ski. What was

meant to be a practical decision quickly became so much more. We spent 10 wonderful years there

raising our three children and building Skin Dynamics.

Although our family later moved to Calgary, Cranbrook still feels like home. I continue to return

regularly to see patients, many of whom I've cared for over decades. Being part of people's lives,

and now seeing multiple generations of families, is one of the greatest privileges of my career.

Where did the name Skin Dynamics come from?

I've always been fascinated by skin - it's constantly changing, adapting, and reflecting both our

health and our experiences. “Skin Dynamics” felt like the perfect way to capture that idea of

continual movement, renewal, and transformation.

The butterfly in our logo has a special meaning as well. It reminds me of my grandmother, who was

a beautiful influence in my life. Before she passed away, she told me that butterflies would remind

me of her. Over the years, the butterfly has also come to represent transformation, growth, and

beauty—all values that align closely with what we do every day.

What three skincare products would you want on a deserted island?

This is actually something I think about more often than I probably should!

First would be Exfoliation Accelerator. I love the way it keeps my skin feeling smooth, bright, and refined.

Second would be AOX. It's my go-to morning antioxidant because it provides excellent environmental protection and gives the skin a beautiful glow.

And third - although it may not be the most exciting choice—would absolutely have to be a tinted

mineral sunscreen. If I were stranded on a deserted island, sun protection would be non-negotiable, and a tinted formula like Alumier MD Sheer Hydration Versatile Tint would be my pick.

How has injecting changed in the last 20 years?

One of the biggest advantages of being in this field for over 20 years is having the perspective to

watch trends come and go. I've never been someone who chases trends. Instead, I've always believed in introducing treatments only when I've thoroughly researched them, experienced them myself, and genuinely believe in their value.

What has excited me most is the shift toward more natural-looking outcomes. Patients increasingly

want to look refreshed and healthy rather than altered, and I think that's a very positive evolution.

We're also seeing tremendous growth in regenerative medicine, where the focus is on restoring and

supporting the body's own natural processes rather than simply masking signs of aging.

What new innovations are you the most excited about?

The area that excites me most right now is regenerative medicine. We're learning so much about

how to support the skin's natural ability to repair, rejuvenate, and maintain itself.

I'm particularly interested in innovations involving peptides, cellular health therapies, and advanced

skin treatments that help optimize skin function at a deeper level. I'm also excited about biostimulators, which encourage the body to produce its own collagen and create gradual, natural-looking improvements.

What I love about these innovations is that they align perfectly with my philosophy. I've never been

interested in making people look different. The future of aesthetics, in my view, is about helping

people look healthy, vibrant, refreshed, and like the very best version of themselves.
